Job Position

The Department of Educational Studies (http://www.edst.purdue.edu) within the College of Education at Purdue University invites applications for a 9-month position, Clinical Assistant Professor of Special Education in teacher preparation to begin August 2024. The Special Education Program faculty are dedicated to preparing future educators, researchers, and leaders in the fields of special education and applied behavior analysis using both evidence-based and innovative practices to meet the needs of each and every learner. The Special Education program offers a Ph.D. in Educational Studies with a concentration in Special Education, a Master of Science with a concentration in Applied Behavior Analysis (residential and online), and a Bachelor of Arts degree with licensure options in K-6 special education mild and intense interventions, 5-12 special education mild and intense interventions, or K-6 dual elementary education and special education.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Teach a variety of courses in our undergraduate program (3/3 load + course coordination) in areas such as student teaching, field seminars, academic instructional methods, inclusive pedagogy.
  • Serve as course/program representative on college teacher education committees in rotation with other special education faculty.
  • Maintain a record scholarly productivity commensurate with a clinical faculty position, related to core teaching and service responsibilities.
  • Guide doctoral students in their area of expertise.
  • Contribute to course and program development.
  • Contribute to faculty service requirements.

Qualifications

Applicants for the position must hold a Ph.D. in special education or a closely related field by the position’s start date.

Required Qualifications

  • Hold a Ph.D. in special education or a closely related field,
  • A minimum of three years teaching experience in a public U.S. PK-12 school, working with students with disabilities,
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity (e.g., publications and/or presentations related to teacher preparation) commensurate with the clinical position,
  • Evidence of effective instruction within teacher preparation, and
  • Ability to teach courses in two or more of the following areas: student teaching, field seminars, academic instructional methods, inclusive pedagogy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A record of instructional innovation and leadership
  • A record of engagement and leadership in professional organizations
  • Course or program development experience and interest in instructional innovation
  • Experience with edTPA, student teacher mentorship, and/or field experience supervision
  • Experience with SPA, state review, or CAEP accreditation processes
  • Experience with assistive technology

Salary

Salary and benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.
